To what extent has ideology and practical interests motivated US foreign policy?
- The US had internal motivation to increase their economy and by using American ideals (democracy over communism) they engaged in foreign policy.
- In summary, the US used the spread of their ideology (democracy over communism, manifest destiny, protecting freedom) in order to justify their actions which satisfied their practical interests (economic prosperity, resource availability & to keep the Soviets from taking over the world)
- America believed thats its their responsibility to spread what we believe in ( use manifest destiny to spread democracy, etc) and to expand our global power to show our success and share it with the rest of the world.
